Mission And Outreach

Opportunities to Serve

There is an old African proverb that says, "those who build the community are built by it..." This philosophy was one of the cornerstones Saint Andrew Christian Church was built on. As you can see from the long list of mission and outreach programs below, Saint Andrew invests itself in not only the local community, but also in the global community. For a more detailed account of what we have done, read our  Annual Mission Report. If you would like to get involved, please contact our Mission Committee.

  • Blood Drives - Regular blood drives to support the needs of the local Community Blood Center. During the pandemic please give blood if you can. We will not have a blood drive but visit the Community Blood Center website to make an appointment.

  • Center of Grace - Once per month volunteers prepare and serve a free meal for those in need.

  • Disciple Mission Fund - Supporting more than 70 ministries that promote wholeness in a broken world. These ministries have both a local and global impact.

  • El Higueral - Since 1992 the members of Saint Andrew have partnered with the citizens of this poor farming village in the mountains of El Salvador.

  • Hand of Welcome Refugee Ministry - Our volunteers welcome and mentor refugees who are entering our community. We do this work in partnership with Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas, Jewish Vocational Services and Della Lamb Community Services. For more information, please download our brochure or follow us on Facebook.

  • Harvesters - In addition to an annual volunteer day at this regional food bank, our members donate food and money.

  • Heartland Coalition Against Gun Violence - Saint Andrew is a sponsor of their annual community event.

  • House of Abraham - Saint Andrew participates in this Habitat for Humanity of Kansas City program that brings together volunteers from the three Abrahamic faith traditions - Judaism, Islam and Christianity - to build a home for a Kansas City family.

  • Interfaith Outreach - Throughout the year Saint Andrew members participate in a number of organizations that seek to build relationships with other faith traditions.

  • Johnson County Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) - Saint Andrew is part of a network of 35 congregations who provide assistance to situationally homeless families in our area. Since late 2017 we have been one of the host sites - opening our building to these families to provide a safe and comfortable place to sleep.

  • Migrant Farmworkers Project - We have an annual donation drive to provide backpacks and school supplies to the children of migrant farmworkers in the area.

  • KC Pridefest - To show our love, support and acceptance of the LGBTQIA community, we participate in this annual event.

  • SAFEHOME - Through volunteers and donations Saint Andrew supports this organization that provides shelter and counseling for victims of domestic violence.

  • Tall Oaks Conference Center - This is a camp facility that is a ministry of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Greater Kansas City.

  • Washington Elementary School - We provide support for both students and teachers in this Olathe school by providing coats, socks and mentors for students and meals for teachers during parent/teacher conferences.

  • Week of Compassion - Through special offering twice a year Saint Andrew supports this ministry of the denomination that meets the humanitarian needs of people in crisis around the globe.
